Good, Wholesome Fun

I am totally a city girl.  But I finally learned to appreciate where I live, especially after living in NYC and Boston for most of my summer.  During these last few weeks of August, all I want to do is sit out on the patio.  I don't want to see another form of public transportation for a very long time.

Yesterday, I went to a friend's beach house in Old Saybrook with a bunch of people.  I had never been to this part of Old Saybrook and was surprised by how beautiful the beach was.  It's nice to know Old Saybrook has more to offer than strip malls.
We set up a volleyball net (which was a process) and played some beach volley ball.  The teams were all guys...plus me.  I was pretty much useless as a teammate, seeing as I have a constant fear of sports balls being launched at my face (which was a problem when I had to play sports in high school).  I would constantly miss the easiest of shots and my teammate would look at me with a scowl.

I just sat the rest of the games out and tanned.  That way, everyone was happy.

Kanye=My Favorite D-Bag

So last night I saw the last show of Kanye West's Glow in the Dark Tour at the Foxwoods MGM Grand.  And it was SICK.  I danced/screamed/sang the whole time and did not sit down once.  Of course, he proclaimed himself the "biggest star in the universe."  But I wouldn't expect anything less from Kanye.

There was a story line throughout the whole show where Kanye was on a space ship that crashed on a planet and he was trying to get back to earth.  The stage set looked like mars and had this monster with glowing red eyes.   The spaceship, named Jane, kept coming down from the ceiling and talking in a robotic woman voice.  It was cute and gangster all at the same time.  I loved it. Only Kanye.

Gnarles Barkley opened the show.  They sounded great, but didn't have a lot of stage presence.  I would have been just as happy listening to their CD in my car.

Put ya diamonds in the sky!!

After the show, everyone got these nifty little free books, filled with encouraging words of wisdom from Mr. West.  Maybe someday I can sell it on ebay for lots of money.

New York City Raped my Wallet

So my birthday was a few days ago and to celebrate I went to NYC with some friends.  Now...I love New York and all, it's my favorite place in the world, but GOD DAMN is that city expensive.  Within our first hour of being there we spent $100, and that was just the first hundred of many to be spent over the course of the next 24 hours.

We walked past the huge H&M on 5th avenue and, as usual, couldn't resist going in.  And then we convinced ourselves we needed better outfits for going out later that night.  My friend Jon,
who was with me, has far better taste in fashion than I do seeing as he lives in the city.  He did a whirlwind around the store and picked out a bunch of stuff for me to try on.

We decided on an adorable little ruffly dress and a pleated and flowy black top.  Jon, who is the most generous person in the world, bought me the dress.  He also bought us a tres expensive but delicious dinner at Spice Market in the Meatpacking district later that night, along with many, many drinks.  Bless his soul.

One dish we tried at Spice Market was the Salmon Sashimi with garlic and lemon soy.  We also had shrimp spring rolls with dill and siracha (whatever that is).  My favorite was the duck entree.

After Spice Market, we went to a club underneath Merkato 55 (also in Meatpacking).
One rum and coke, out of many: $18
Dinner: >$200
Skipping the line, dancing to techno with random gay dudes, having amazing friends who showed me a great time on my birthday and getting back to the apartment at 5 am: priceless
